| Why Do We Need To Recycle? |

Mobile
phones are not biodegradable and over 90% of materials in mobile
phones, batteries and accessories can be recovered and used to
make new products such as stainless steel, plastic fence posts
and jewellery. There are over 15.5 million mobile phones and
batteries sitting around in homes and offices that could be
recycled. The Australian mobile phone industry is committed to
increasing it's collections, maintaining the highest
environmental standards. |

| Mobile Muster |

Mobile Muster is the official
national recycling program of the mobile phone industry in Australia.
The overall aim of this program is to prevent mobile phones ending up in
landfill. As of June 30, 2007 over 454 tonnes of mobile phone handsets,
batteries and accessories or 2.7 million handsets and batteries were
collected. |

| What Happens To Recycled Mobiles? |
|
|
|
1. All mobiles
collected are dismantled, sorted and separated into circuit
boards, batteries, handsets and accessories. More than 90% can
be recovered.
2. Metals are
extracted, plastics are shredded and batteries are sorted by
type for cadmium and nickel recovery.
3. The materials
recovered can be used for fence posts, jewellery, pallets and
stainless products. |
